National Curriculum

The National Curriculum requires us to give greatest attention to the two core subjects, English(Literacy) and Mathematics (Numeracy), whilst Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is regarded as an integral part of all subjects.

The other foundation subjects which are taught consist of:

  • Science
  • Design and Technology
  • History
  • Geography
  • Music
  • Art
  • Physical Education (i.e. educational gymnastics, dance, games, athletics, swimming)
  • Religious Education

Note: Religious Education is entirely non-denominational and is taught to provide a framework of Christian principles. The curriculum is based on the Wirral Agreed Syllabus. School assemblies are held most days. Parents have the right to withdraw their children from religious education only upon the written request to the Governors of the School via the Headteacher. Alternative arrangements for the supervision of any such children will be made.

A Themed Curriculum

Most of the work engaged in by the pupils is now planned on a thematic basis. This means that within a certain topic or project many of the subjects listed above would be interlinked, and not always isolated from each other. This approach to teaching and learning is now an integral aspect of Church Drive’s curriculum planning and delivery.
