We are Hawthorn Class. Our Teacher is Mr Davies and our Teaching Assistant is Mrs Heale.
We are now in our final year at Church Drive and appreciate what an important and special time this is for us. In preparation for our move to high school next year, we are encouraged to take responsibility for various aspects of school life. We fulfil a variety of roles, including those of Head Boy/Girl and Deputy Head Boy/Girl, prefects, house captains, school enterprise representatives and sports leaders. We are always mindful of our most important role, however: to aspire to be the best role-models we can for other children in the school.
End of Key Stage assessment and the transition to high school are fast approaching, and for this reason we are expected to produce work of the highest standard at home and at school. We aim to read regularly at home (at least three times and prizes are awarded to those who achieve this), ensuring that we return our Reading Record to school every day. Luckily, there is always someone in class who can recommend a new book or author for us to enjoy, and we love sharing our new reading discoveries with each other. We try to practise our times tables every evening, as we know that this will help our daily work in Maths. We also complete a piece of Maths and English homework each week.
This term in Maths, our topics include calculating with fractions, decimals and percentages. We always apply reasoning skills to all aspects of maths to ensure we become competent and confident problem solvers.
This term in English, we are reading ‘Macbeth' to inspire and excite us as readers and writers. We are striving to use more complex sentences in our writing and high level punctuation including semicolons and colons. Vocabulary and spelling work are a high priority this year and to that end we will be dedicating several sessions each week to practising our spellings.
We have opportunities to learn a broad range of skills through our Creative Curriculum based topics. This term we are covering art, design technology, music, history and geography through the context of Shakespeare. This topic also provides a useful link to our writing curriculum.
This term our Science topic is Evolution and Inheritance.
Other subjects in our curriculum – Computing, PE, RE, French and PSHE - are studied separately.
