Badgers: Foundation Stage 1

We are Badgers Class. Our Teacher is Mrs Hargreaves and our Teaching Assistants are Mrs Craig, Mrs Lyne and Mrs Bellis.

In the Autumn Term we focus mainly on Personal, Social and Emotional development. We learn rules and routines and make new friends! We are learning to be as independent as possible, making choices constantly throughout the day. We work on the ‘Prime’ areas of development. These are;

  • Personal, Social and Emotional development

  • Physical Development

  • Communication and Language

Towards the end of the Autumn Term we begin our ‘Key Group’ sessions, developing our listening skills and concentration. We have daily 'Wake and Shake’ & ‘Funky Fingers’ sessions. These are fun activities to develop gross motor and fine motor skills to get ready for mark making and writing in F2.

To develop listening and concentration we follow the ‘Sound Listening’ programme and progress to ‘Letters and Sounds’ Phase 1 phonics. Later in the Summer Term we begin Read, Write Inc. with those children who are ready.

Throughout the year children access Continuous Provision indoors and outdoors and develop skills in subject areas including the ‘Prime' areas listed above and the other four areas of learning;

  • Understanding of the World

  • Expressive Arts and Design

  • Literacy

  • Mathematics

We enjoy various trips within our locality and in the wider environment. Parents are invited to come along and take part in these trips whenever possible.
